Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh instructed authorities in northern Dien Bien province to invest in developing infrastructure to create breakthrough development, at a working session in its capital, Dien Bien Phu, on April 9.

Dien Bien holds major potential in industrial, agricultural, service, tourism, and renewable energy, but is yet to tap all of its advantages, the Prime Minister said.

It should turn tourism into a spearhead economic sector, pay greater attention to human resources development, and speed up administrative reform, he said.

He suggested Dien Bien adjust its growth strategy for particular sectors, with priority going to agriculture and forestry, tourism, hydropower, mining, processing, the border economy, and the digital and circular economies.

In the first quarter of 2023, the province posted GRDP growth of 6.7 per cent and a 6.36 per cent increase in the Index of Industrial Production.
