Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has instructed Hanoi to enhance innovation and develop rapidly, comprehensively, and sustainably to become a model in socio-economic development for the entire country.

Speaking at a meeting between permanent Cabinet members and the Standing Board of the Hanoi Party Committee on May 6, Prime Minister Chinh said Vietnam’s capital should maximize all resources for development investment, continue streamlining administrative procedures, improve its business environment, and address shortcomings in the real estate and corporate bond markets.

He emphasized that greater efforts are needed to restructure the industrial sector, targeting industries that have advantages and potential, and to promote support industries and prioritize services with added value and sectoral links like finance, logistics, and e-commerce.

The Prime Minister also suggested that Hanoi establish green and smart industrial parks, optimize scientific and technological applications to raise productivity and competitiveness, and promote tourism.

Hanoi recorded gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 5.8 per cent in the first quarter of this year.

The capital ranks second nationwide in terms of FDI attraction, with over 7,000 projects and $61.7 billion. Between January and April this year, it attracted $1.71 billion worth of FDI, representing a year-on-year rise of 260 per cent.
