Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the Ministry of Transport (MoT), south-central Binh Dinh province, and relevant agencies to quickly complete planning dossiers for Phu Cat Airport.

He made the call after hearing a report on a project to upgrade and expand Phu Cat Airport, which is being used for both civil and military purposes, during his working visit to Binh Dinh on February 4.

In a draft master plan on the network of airports and airfields nationwide in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, the MoT proposed boosting the designed capacity of Phu Cat Airport from 2 million passengers a year to 5 million by 2030 and 7 million by 2050.

It currently serves 1.5 million passengers a year.
