The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has proposed building a new T3 passenger terminal at Phu Cat Airport in south-central Binh Dinh province by 2030, with a capacity of 3.5 million passengers.
It is now seeking opinions on draft adjustments to Phu Cat Airport’s planning for the period to 2020 and orientations towards 2030.
Under previous planning for the period to 2020, the airport was to accommodate between 1.2 and 1.5 million passengers a year.
However, it was already catering to 1.575 million passengers and 2,705 tons of cargo by 2019 and 2.362 million passengers and 905 tons of cargo by 2022.
Actual usage has far exceeded forecasts, overloading many new facilities.
The CAAV expects to expand capacity at the T3 terminal to 7 million passengers annually by 2050.
Total investment for the airport’s adjusted planning in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050 is estimated at nearly VND14 trillion ($575 million).
