Central Quang Ngai province plans to build an airport on Ly Son Island with a capacity of 3.5 million passengers a year, according to local authorities.
Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee Dang Van Minh has instructed the local Department of Transport to coordinate with relevant agencies to discuss construction plans for the airport.
In 2021, the province proposed that the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport add Ly Son Airport to the national master plan for the development of the national airport network in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050.
If approved, the airport will be built under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) form.
It is expected to act as a growth driver to help develop Ly Son island district into an economic, tourism, and national security and defense center.
