Railway sector posts outstanding revenue of $156mln in 1H

Passenger transport turnover up a whopping 83%.

Vietnam’s railway sector posted revenue of VND3.7 trillion ($156.4 million) in the first half of the year, up 17 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR).

Passenger transport saw turnover of more than VND1.2 trillion ($50.6 million), for year-on-year growth of an impressive 83 per cent.

Meanwhile, freight transport earned VND824 billion ($34.76 million), or 80 per cent of the figure in the same period last year.

VNR is set to achieve revenue and after-tax profit of over VND6.5 trillion ($274.1 million) and VND3 billion ($126,000), respectively, this year.

According to the Corporation, the railway sector has implemented a number of solutions to boost transport. In terms of passenger transport, for example, the number of trains and trips has been adjusted to suit passenger needs.

Ticket prices are also flexible, to encourage more people to travel by train.
