Remittances to Vietnam in 2023 reached $16 billion, a year-on-year increase of 32 per cent, figures from the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) show.
Of the total, Ho Chi Minh City received the largest amount, with nearly $9.5 billion, accounting for 60 per cent of the total, the Cong Thuong (Industry and Trade) online newspaper has reported.
Experts attributed the rise to the relaxed immigration control and health measures in many countries in the post-Covid-19 period that resulted in an increase in the number of Vietnamese people working abroad.
Around 6 million Vietnamese reside in 130 countries and territories across the globe, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Vietnam remains among the world’s top 10 countries in terms of remittances.
