Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 12 signed a measure granting Vietnamese citizens visa-free entry to Russia, with the policy remaining in effect from October 15, 2026, until October 15, 2027.
Vietnamese citizens who hold ordinary passports can now stay in Russia for up to 30 consecutive days without a visa, provided their visit is not for employment purposes.
Vietnam has become the 12th country whose citizens are eligible for visa-free entry to the Russian Federation under the relevant arrangements.
Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said the measure could boost tourism, create additional jobs in the supply sector and open up further opportunities to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Mr. Reshetnikov noted that the number of direct flights between Russia and Vietnam was increasing, with routes expanding to cover more destinations. The two countries currently operate 78 flights per week, he said.
Last year alone, 20 new air routes were launched serving destinations including Da Nang, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development expects the new visa policy, combined with expanding air connectivity, to help increase tourist flows between the two countries to 1.5 million visits by the end of 2026.
The measure is expected to facilitate travel, support tourism-related businesses and strengthen people-to-people and economic exchanges between Vietnam and Russia.
