Global semiconductor product packaging and test services provider Amkor Technology plans to conduct a trial run of its factory in Vietnam in the fourth quarter of this year.

Construction of the factory in northern Bac Ninh province is on schedule and expected to be completed in September. It covers some 23 ha at the Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park.

The project has total investment capital of $1.6 billion. The first phase has estimated investment of around $520 million.

Once fully operational, it will be the largest high tech semiconductor plant of Amkor in the world, according to Director General of Amkor Technology Vietnam Kim Sung Hun.

The plant will deliver advanced system-in-package modules and other packaging solutions, helping it with supply chain diversification.
