The Southeast Region of Vietnam remains a key destination for banking capital, with outstanding loans totalling nearly VND6.8 quadrillion ($258 billion) by the end of September, accounting for almost 35% of the country’s total credit balance.
The information was revealed at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on October 23 by the State Bank of Vietnam and the municipal People's Committee, entitled “The Banking Sector Joins Hands to Unlock Financial and Banking Resources for the Southeast Region's Growth in 2026–2030”.
A Resolution issued by the Politburo on August 28, 2026 identifies the Southeast Region as the country’s largest growth engine and a hub for high-tech manufacturing, digital technology industries and international logistics. In 2026, the region continued to serve as a major economic driver, contributing 31.4% to national growth.
In the first nine months of 2026, gross regional domestic product grew by 10.3% in Tay Ninh province, 10.01% in Dong Nai city and 9.06% in Ho Chi Minh City, all exceeding Vietnam’s national GDP growth rate of 9.01%.
At the conference, banks and businesses signed 18 cooperation agreements to finance projects and business plans in the region.
