State President To Lam leaves Hanoi for the US and Cuba

General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse left Hanoi on September 21 morning for the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79), according to a report from the Government News.

Following the United Nations events, the top Vietnamese leader will pay a working visit to the U.S. and a State visit to Cuba.

The Party General Secretary and State President is accompanied by Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh; Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia; Politburo member, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang; Politburo member, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the Party Central Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc; and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Affairs Le Hoai Trung;  Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai, Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Ecomomic Commission Tran Luu Quang, Chief of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Foreign Affairs Vu Hai Ha, Secretary of the Hai Phong Municipal Party Committee Le Tien Chau, Vietnamese Ambassador to the U.S. Nguyen Quoc Dung, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long, among others.

President Lam's participation at the United Nations' events is of significant importance as it continues to demonstrate Viet Nam's active contributions to the world's largest multilateral organization, and the country's proactive and active engagement in settling regional and international issues.

Regarding bilateral ties, the top leader’s working trip to the U.S. takes place one year after the two countries upgraded their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership and both sides are preparing for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025. This is an important opportunity for both sides to review the achievements of the new partnership frameworks and chart major orientations and measures to sustain the positive, stable and substantive growth momentum of the two countries' relations.
