Schedule for ending 2G on track

The Ministry of Information and Communications has said that Vietnam has over 126 million mobile phone subscribers, an increase of 2.6 million compared to the same period last year, of which 93.7 million use smartphones. The number with feature phones stands at over 26 million but is falling every month, in line with the policy of turning off 2G in some areas by 2023 and shutting it down nationwide in September 2024.

Digital transformation redefining journalism

The Ministry of Information and Communications is developing a draft Strategy for digital transformation of the media to 2025 and vision to 2030, with the media developing towards multi-platform, multi-media, and multi-services. By 2030, 90 per cent of electronic media agencies will convert their operating mechanisms to a model of a converged, multi-media newsroom.

Telecommunications laws to be amended and supplemented

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) is collecting comments from citizens on a draft decree amending and supplementing Decree No. 25/2011/ND-CP from the government on regulations and guidelines for the implementation of a number of telecommunications laws. In particular, for the retail services market, two services, including fixed internet access services and terrestrial mobile communication services, have been proposed.
