The Vietnam Expressway Development Investment Corporation (VEC) has proposed it self-balance investment capital to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway from the existing four lanes to eight to ten lanes, costing VND14.7 trillion ($599 million). VEC believes the Long Thanh International Airport will be put into operation by 2025, which will exacerbate the overloading already seen along the expressway.
The Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has sent an official dispatch to the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) requesting that it approve a VEC investment in completing a traffic intersection on National Highway No. 51 connecting it with Ho Chi Minh City’s Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway in the first phase.
The 57.8 km-long Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway project has total investment of more than VND31 trillion ($1.33 billion) and is a national key project within the East North - South Expressway project but has stalled due to a lack of capital. The Ministry of Planning and Investment has proposed that the government assign the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) to balance and arrange reciprocal capital to continue project implementation.
