The central highlands has an important strategic location in terms of economy, politics, and national defense and security for the country as a whole and the Indochina region and especially for Greater Mekong Sub-Region cooperation, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. He suggested that the central highlands develop a green and circular economy, change mindsets from agricultural production to becoming an agricultural economy, and develop into a major tourism center in the country.
On July 1, at a conference summarizing 20 years of implementing a Politburo Resolution on socio-economic development in the central highlands, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung raised five key issues in need of attention for the region to boost development, such as restoring and developing the forest economy, protecting watershed ecosystems, biodiversity, and water security, and addressing immigration issues.
