The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with units and businesses to hold a ceremony on October 8 to launch the “For the poor” month from October 17 to November 18, with activities to help disadvantaged families, poor students, and children orphaned by Covid-19. Hanoi is implementing a host of solutions to support sustainable poverty reduction and has set a target of cutting the number of poor households by 25-30 per cent each year and basically having no poor households by the end of 2025. Total funding to 2025 is nearly VND1.6 trillion ($67.6 million).
After 20 years of offering preferential credit policies for the poor and policy beneficiaries under government resolutions, more than 326,000 poor and near-poor households and beneficiaries in northern Bac Kan province have obtained production loans. Policy credit has contributed to a significant reduction in poverty over the years.
