The majority of export demand for high-tech industries, including electronics, computers, and components, originated from the FDI sector rather than domestic enterprises.
According to the General Department of Customs, in the first seven months of 2022, Vietnam’s exports to Japan reached $13.4 billion, up 13.4 per cent year-on-year, while imports from the country totaled $13.9 billion, up 8.9 per cent. Vietnam therefore posted a trade deficit of $440 million with Japan.
Figures from the General Department of Customs show that exports reached $14.29 billion in the first half of July, down 19.5 per cent compared to the first half of June, while imports were $16.3 billion, up 4.5 per cent. Vietnam therefore posted a trade deficit of more than $2 billion in the period and $1 billion since the beginning of the year.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, total import and export value stood at more than $21 billion in the first half of February, of which more than $8.7 billion was from exports and $12.6 billion was from imports. Vietnam therefore posted a trade deficit of $3.9 billion. As of February 15, trade for the year was in deficit to the tune of $2.53 billion.
Vietnam’s livestock industry exported animal feed and raw materials worth $1.5 billion in 2021. Imports of raw materials for animal feed production, meanwhile, totaled $4.9 billion, up 29 per cent against 2020. The feed industry therefore posted a trade deficit some $3.4 billion.
Cambodian exports to Vietnam reached $3.5 billion in the first eight months of 2021, up 423 per cent over the same period of 2020 and resulting in Vietnam posting a trade deficit with its neighbor of $355 million.
