Transport services posted handy growth in the first ten months of 2024, with year-on-year increases of 8.1% in passenger transport and 14.3% in cargo transport, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
The number of passengers transported was estimated at over 4.13 billion, including 14.6 million foreigners. Meanwhile, cargo transport stood at over 2.17 billion tons.
In the ten-month period, Vietnam welcomed 14.1 million foreign visitors, including nearly 12 million transported by air, up 36.9% year-on-year; nearly 2 million by road, up 65.7%; and 189,100 by sea, up 172.3%.
In October alone, the number of passengers transported reached 457.9 million, while cargo transport was estimated at 245.6 million tons.
The Ministry of Transport set ambitious goals for 2024, aiming for a 7% increase in freight transport volume (approximately 2.5 billion tons) and an 8% increase in passenger transport volume (around 5 billion passengers) compared to 2023.
