The Ministry of Transport (MoT) continues to lead the country in terms of public investment disbursement, with nearly 90 per cent of its allocation for 2023 disbursed as of December.
It was allocated record public investment capital of VND114 trillion ($4.75 billion) for the year.
Speaking at a meeting on December 28 to review the transport sector’s performance in 2023 and discuss tasks in 2024, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang said it had made breakthroughs in infrastructure development during the year with the implementation of 26 projects.
These include 18 road projects, two waterway projects, three railway projects, two maritime projects and one project to upgrade the ministry’s headquarters.
It completed 20 projects during 2023, including nine sub-projects of the Eastern North-South Expressway with a total length of 475 km. This brought the total length of expressways nationwide to 1,892 km.
The ministry plans to complete procedures to begin construction of 19 other projects in 2024. It also targets submitting to authorized agencies for approval an investment policy for a project to build the North-South express railway line.
