Transport ministry plans to upgrade seven expressways

Xuân Nghi -

Expressways have deteriorated and pose a traffic risk.

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has asked its Department of Planning and Investment to review and develop roadmaps to invest in upgrading seven expressways.

They are Noi Bai - Lao Cai, Cao Bo - Mai Son - National Highway No. 45, Trung Luong - My Thuan, Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet, Nha Trang - Cam Lam, Hanoi - Thai Nguyen, and Cam Lo - Son La.

These expressways have exhibited shortcomings after a long period of use, such as general deterioration, lacking barriers between lanes, or not having an emergency lane.

The move is being made following a report from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) about the risk of traffic accidents along these expressways.

The MPS also proposed that the MoT tackle shortcomings in traffic organization along many other expressways, to ensure traffic safety.
