Northern Bac Ninh province intends to develop a semiconductor industry, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan told a visiting US business delegation from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) on October 27.

“To that end, the province has been accelerating investment in digital infrastructure,” he told Mr. John Neuffer, SIA President and CEO. “The province has 4G coverage and will begin a trial of 5G with three base stations.”

The province is also implementing the Bac Ninh Concentrated Information Technology Park project, which boasts a favorable location and infrastructure that meets requirements for the semiconductor industry. It is also studying policies for training human resources in the digital industry in general and in the chip and semiconductor industry in particular.

Mr. Tuan proposed that the SIA create mechanisms to help link US semiconductor businesses with Bac Ninh, and to support Bac Ninh in workforce training, particularly high-quality human resources in the semiconductor industry.

On the occasion, he also proposed that the SIA consider holding a workshop on semiconductors in Bac Ninh in December.

For his part, Mr. Neuffer said Vietnam is an important link in the global semiconductor supply chain.

He hopes that Bac Ninh authorities will be determined to improve conditions for the development of a local industry.
