Vietnam and UAE strengthen cooperation in aviation sector

The potential for cooperation in the aviation sector between the two sides is assessed as highly positive.

At their working meeting in Hanoi on February 25, Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV),  Mr. Eisa Alhammadi, Charge D'Affaires of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Vietnam, and Mr. Majid Al Falasi, Country Manager of UAE’s Emirates Airline in Vietnam, discussed potential cooperation between the two sides in the aviation sector.

Mr. Dung highly appreciated the potential and capabilities of the UAE and its advanced airlines. He expressed a strong commitment to facilitating opportunities for UAE’s airlines to develop in Vietnam.

Besides, Mr. Dung also expressed Vietnam’s determination to develop aviation infrastructure, including expanding international airports in major cities and tourist destinations while adopting cutting-edge technology in air traffic management to facilitate the cooporation of UAE’s airlines.

These efforts will help create new operational slots for airlines, particularly Emirates Airlines, allowing it to increase flight frequencies and launch new routes to Vietnam, Mr. Dung noted.

Mr. Dung also shared about the Vietnam’s Master planning for airport development in the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050. He emphasized major investments in Long Thanh International Airport and Gia Binh Airport, along with upgrades to connectivity with Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai International Airports. These potentials will create favorable conditions for international airlines operating in Vietnam, including UAE airlines.

In response, Mr. Eisa Alhammadi expressed keen interest in these developments of Vietnam in developing the aviation sector. UAE hope to have further updates on the planning and execution of these projects in Vietnam in the coming time.

Mr. Eisa Alhammadi expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s rapidly growing aviation market recently and expressed that the UAE and Vietnam would continue to expand their cooperation in the aviation sector in the future.

He said he was particularly excited about Emirates Airlines’ expansion in Vietnam, especially the launch of its second regular route between Dubai and Ho Chi Minh City on January 15, 2025. Additionally, he announced the airline’s plan to operate two new flights to Da Nang in June 2025, for which Emirates Airlines is actively seeking new landing and takeoff slots at Da Nang International Airport.

Furthermore, Mr. Eisa Alhammadi also shared that UAE’s Etihad Airways would launch a new route to Hanoi starting from November 3, 2025. These developments align perfectly with the commitments made by senior leaders of Vietnam and UAE.
