Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance and Canada’s Department of Global Affairs held a high-level Vietnam-Canada business forum on September 25 during General Secretary and President To Lam’s State visit to Canada.
Representatives of business associations and companies from both countries discussed cooperation in finance, energy, infrastructure, transport and high technology, while proposing measures to expand bilateral trade and investment.
Speaking at the forum, General Secretary and President To Lam said, as quoted by the Vietnam News Agency, that based on recent growth in bilateral trade, the two economies could aim for $14-15 billion in two-way trade by 2030, with a focus on balanced, sustainable and higher-value growth.
He called on businesses from both sides to move from strong trade ties toward deeper investment cooperation, including by connecting Canadian long-term capital with high-quality projects in Vietnam.
Vietnam has significant demand for transport infrastructure, seaports, airports, logistics, power grids, energy, digital infrastructure, data centres and modern industrial parks. Canada, meanwhile, has strengths in engineering, project management, infrastructure finance, clean energy, LNG, environmental technology, public-private partnerships and sustainable development standards.
The two countries are also expanding cooperation in strategic areas including clean energy, energy technology, critical minerals, transport and logistics, science, technology and innovation.
Vietnam encouraged Canadian companies to invest not only in physical assets but also in technology, research and development, data, digital solutions and clean technologies.
During the event, General Secretary and President To Lam and Canadian Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements involving Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, CAE Inc. and InteliSys, covering aviation training, simulation technology, digital learning, artificial intelligence, data and core technology systems.
