Trade between Vietnam and China has been robust in the opening days of the new year, with upgrades to and the reopening of many border gates.

In the first week of 2024, the number of vehicles passing customs clearance to transport goods via six border gates in northern Lang Son province rose by nearly 300 each day, according to the Management Board of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone.

An average of 1,200 vehicles transported products for import and export via the border gates each day.

Last year, two border gates between Vietnam and China in Lang Son province resumed operations, bringing the total number in the province to seven.

In northern Lao Cai province, the total revenue of import and export activities between Vietnam and China via the Lao Cai border gate in the first three days of the new year reached nearly $5.4 million. Exports totaled over $2.8 million.
