The semiconductor sector is considered a “billion dollar” industry for Vietnam but the country faces a severe shortage of human resources in the field, according to experts.
At a recent conference held by the Ho Chi Minh City National University and the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Association on the situation and solutions in human resources training and research to build the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, both domestic and international experts emphasized that the entire world is thirsty for human resources in the field and Vietnam is no exception.
The global semiconductor chain is classified into four groups - design, production, packaging and testing, and equipment manufacture. Vietnam is currently capable of taking part in the chip design stage but its human resources are limited.
It has over 40 companies specializing in chip design with over 5,000 engineers and experts. Meanwhile, many chip design companies are shifting to Vietnam, leading to a huge demand for human resources.
Principal of the Ho Chi Minh City National University Tran Le Quan proposed the development of training programs in semiconductors and electronic components in cooperation with semiconductor businesses to train high-quality human resources to meet demand for research and production activities both inside and outside of the country.
