Vietnam granted licenses to 153 new FDI projects with capital of $1.2 billion in January, a year-on-year increase of 48.5 per cent in number and 3.1-fold in value, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Those related to wholesale, retail, and the repair of automobiles and motorized vehicles accounted for the lion’s share of total capital, at 54.1 per cent, or $651.9 million, followed by those in the processing and manufacturing industry, with $351.2 million.

The country attracted total FDI capital of $1.69 billion in January, down nearly 20 per cent year-on-year.

Twenty-eight 28 foreign countries and territories invested in Vietnam in the month. Singapore led the way, with $767.6 million, followed by China with $198.2 million.
