For the first time, Vietnamese coffee was officially showcased at ExpoCafé 2025 in Chile, the largest coffee exhibition in the country and a key event for the South American region, according to a report from the Vietnam News Agency.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Chile hosted a national pavilion at the fair, which took place from July 19-20 at the Espacio Riesco exhibition center in Santiago de Chile.
The event marks a significant milestone in Vietnam's efforts to enhance its national brand, seek new opportunities, and expand export markets into high-potential regions like Latin America.
The Vietnamese pavilion introduced a wide array of signature coffee products to Chilean and regional buyers. Offerings included robusta and arabica beans, roasted and ground coffee, instant coffee, as well as modern formats like drip bags and capsules.
A key highlight was Vietnam's robusta coffee, primarily grown in the country's Central Highlands. This variety is renowned for its distinct and bold flavor profile, a result of the region's unique climate and soil conditions, giving Vietnam a significant competitive advantage.
Globally, Vietnam is the second-largest coffee producer, with an annual output of approximately 2 million tons, accounting for 15-18% of the world's total production. Its coffee products are already exported to over 80 countries, with major markets including the European Union, the United States, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
Despite its global standing, Vietnam's presence in the Latin American coffee market remains modest.
"Our presence in Chile, and in Latin America more broadly, is still limited," said Ms. Ngo Thu Huong, Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Chile.
She described Vietnam's participation in ExpoCafé 2025 as a "strategic opportunity" to promote Vietnamese coffee in a region known for its long-standing coffee consumption traditions and significant growth potential.
This year's expo attracted over 150 businesses from leading coffee-producing and consuming nations.
