Vietnam prioritizes tech education at five universities

The Prime Minister has issued Decision No. 452/QĐ-TTg, approving the Planning of the Network of Higher Education and Pedagogical Institutions for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

The plan focuses on upgrading and developing five leading public higher education institutions with capacity and prestige in training and research in key and cutting-edge technical and technological fields, aiming to become national key institutions in engineering and technology.

The five include Hanoi University of Science and Technology which has been classified as one of the leading higher education institutions in Asia.

The plan emphasizes the development of a digital higher education network based on digital transformation, applying technology in the organization and operation of each institution and the entire higher education system.

Furthermore, the plan aims to develop a sufficient number of faculty members, with standardized qualifications, and professional and vocational competence, including foreign language proficiency, digital literacy, and the application of educational technology, meeting the development requirements of the higher education system.

The planning sets the goal of forming large, high-quality, and high-level education centers associated with scientific research, technology development, and innovation in four centrally-run cities, namely Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho, creating momentum for the development of key economic regions and the whole country.

It also aims to increase the contribution indices of higher education to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4.3) and the Global Innovation Index (GII), striving to be among the top 10 countries in Asia.

The vision to 2050 is to develop a synchronized and modern network of higher education institutions according to regional and international standards, fully capable of meeting the people's demand for quality higher education, providing a highly skilled workforce, and leading the development of science, technology, and innovation in a developed, high-income country.
