The Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed raising Vietnam’s regional minimum wages by 7.8% from January 1, 2027, with new monthly rates set according to four regions.
Under the draft decree, the monthly minimum wage would rise to VND5.7 million ($217) in Region I, VND5.08 million in Region II, VND4.45 million in Region III and VND4.04 million in Region IV.
The Ministry of Justice has published the appraisal dossier for the draft decree on minimum wages for employees working under labour contracts. The proposal also includes several additional localities that would be placed in higher-wage regions.
The proposed increases range from VND310,000 ($11.7) to VND390,000 per month compared with current levels. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the proposed adjustment would be about 3.7% higher than workers’ estimated minimum living standards through the end of 2027.
The draft also sets hourly minimum wages at VND27,400 ($1.04) in Region I, VND24,400 in Region II, VND21,400 in Region III and VND19,400 in Region IV.
The ministry said the proposed adjustment seeks to improve workers’ living standards while taking into account employers’ ability to maintain and expand production and business activities.
The new rates are subject to the Government’s consideration and approval before taking effect.
