Vietnam has been awarded the 2026 Government Leadership Award by GSMA, the global body representing the mobile industry, in recognition of the country’s outstanding achievements in digital transformation and its emergence as one of the most dynamic digital economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
The award was announced on May 26 at the Hanoi Digital Nation Conference 2026.
It is GSMA’s highest honor for governments demonstrating exceptional progress in digital policymaking and implementation.
According to GSMA, Vietnam was selected not only for its national digital transformation roadmap but also for its strong and coordinated execution over the past two years. The organization described Vietnam as one of the region’s most proactive leaders in advancing digital transformation.
Alongside the award, GSMA released its Digital Nations Report 2025 for Asia-Pacific, identifying Vietnam as a key driver of Southeast Asia’s digital economy. The report noted that the digital economy contributed approximately 18.3% of Vietnam’s GDP in 2024 and is on track to reach 20.5% this year.
GSMA also ranked Vietnam in the upper half of its 2025 Digital Nations Index, citing balanced progress across five pillars: digital infrastructure, innovation, data governance, cybersecurity, and human capital.
The organization said Vietnam has been the fastest-growing digital economy in the region over the past three years and is on course to become ASEAN’s second-largest digital economy by 2030.
