Vietnam is presented with a significant opportunity to advance its nuclear energy industry, enhancing energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability, according to Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat.

He emphasized the global trend toward nuclear energy as a clean energy source with minimal greenhouse gas emissions.

Minister Dat called on the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute to clearly define its role and position in this new context. He envisions the institute as a hub of nuclear science knowledge, gathering a robust team of experts and researchers in the field of atomic energy and nuclear power.

This effort is crucial for the near-term implementation of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project and Vietnam’s long-term nuclear power strategy.

During the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly, a resolution was issued to restart the nuclear power development project.

Dr. Tran Chi Thanh, Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, highlighted the necessity of a strong team in research, management, and operations, along with robust science, technology, and industrial production capabilities to ensure quality and safety in the construction and operation of nuclear power plants.

Immediate research on nuclear power technology and safety is a priority for the institute to advise and support the government and investors in reinitiating the nuclear power program and selecting appropriate technology for the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power projects.
