Vietnam has set a target of 5-6 per cent growth each year in the export value of agriculture, forestry, and fishery products by 2030 under a strategy for sustainable agricultural and rural development.
It targets growth of 2.5-3 per cent annually in the agricultural sector under the strategy for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050,.
In order to successfully implement the strategy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is drafting national development planning for four sectors, including forestry planning, planning for a network of fishing ports and storm shelters, planning for protecting and exploiting aquatic resources, and planning for natural disaster prevention and control and irrigation.
The draft national forestry planning sets a target of maintaining a forest coverage rate of 42-43 per cent and reaching $20 billion in export revenue for forestry products by 2025. An average of 238,000 ha of forest will be planted each year.
Under the draft planning for fishing ports and storm shelters, the country is expected to have 175 fishing ports by 2030 with a capacity of handling nearly 3 million tons of seafood each year, and 160 storm shelters capable of accommodating some 90,600 fishing vessels.
