The Vietnamese Government has issued a Resolution on an action program to implement the Politburo Resolution on developing tourism into a leading economic sector in the new era.
Under the program, Vietnam aims to welcome 45-50 million international visitors and serve 160 million domestic tourists by 2030. Total tourism revenue is expected to reach $80-90 billion, with tourism directly contributing 10-12% of GDP.
The country also aims to rank among the top three destinations in Southeast Asia in terms of tourism scale and growth rate.
To support these targets, Vietnam plans to establish three major tourism growth poles in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, alongside 10 key tourism centres and 20 national tourism areas.
The sector is expected to develop 15 major tourism groups and corporations with strong brands and international competitiveness, expand accommodation capacity to more than 1.5 million rooms, and create approximately 2.3 million direct and 3.5 million indirect jobs.
The Government also plans to complete and operate a smart tourism ecosystem, a national tourism database and a national digital tourism platform.
Notably, Vietnam aims to become an important destination on Asia-Pacific cruise itineraries, supported by coordinated investment in international-standard seaport infrastructure.
