Flight numbers were quite low during the first days of a pilot reopening of domestic flights, at just 50 per cent of those scheduled. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has proposed increasing flight frequency to six flights a day on the three largest routes in the country - Hanoi-Da Nang, Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang-Ho Chi Minh City.

At a meeting with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on October 16, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh noted that a key task is to overcome disruptions to labor supply chains and bring workers back to their employers soon. He also said that the government will continue to improve institutions and introduce regulations to protect workers.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and five provinces in the central highlands and south-central coast have launched a $30 million climate change adaptation project funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), to strengthen the resilience of small-scale agriculture and water security.

The US’s AMI AC Renewables will implement a pilot project to develop a $3-million battery energy storage system in south-central Khanh Hoa province. The project will demonstrate how the US’s leading energy storage technology can help Vietnam achieve its renewable energy development goals and reduce its dependence on coal.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that a shipment including 2,021,360 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine provided to Vietnam by the Italian Government via the COVAX mechanism arrived in Hanoi on October 15. Italy has so far donated a total of more than 2.8 million doses of vaccine to support Vietnam’s vaccination campaign.

Vietnam received nearly 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine on October 15, of which 1.1 million from South Korea and 887,700 doses came from Poland. Poland previously donated 501,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam, while South Korea is discussing the possibility of providing another 100,000 doses.
