Ministries, agencies, localities, and major corporations from Vietnam and the United Kingdom signed a series of cooperation agreements at the Vietnam–UK High-Level Economic Conference, held in London on October 30 (local time) as part of the official visit to the UK by Party General Secretary To Lam, according to a report from the Vietnam News Agency.
The agreements between two governments and ministries cover a wide range of sectors, including a mutual administrative assistance agreement in customs, green finance development, funding for key projects in Vietnam, international financial centre development, international bond issuance cooperation, clean energy collaboration, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on clean energy and grid transition, a disaster risk reduction partnership framework, and a technical assistance project on sustainable transition and climate change adaptation.
Cooperation agreements between localities and international organisations include a friendship cooperation pact between Ho Chi Minh City and Liverpool, an investment certificate for Castrol Gogoro Mobility joint venture in Vietnam’s electric motorbike sector, a cooperation agreement on developing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities at Van Don Airport, and a satellite design and manufacturing partnership in Vietnam.
Among corporate agreements, highlight includes an export credit financing partnership for renewable energy projects by the Vietnam National Industry-Energy Group (Petrovietnam) and its affiliates; continued cooperation with UK charity Facing the World to provide medical training and humanitarian surgeries in Vietnam; a $25 billion contract for 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft, with options for 50 more; and a $3.8 billion agreement with Rolls-Royce for engine maintenance and spare Trent 7000 engines for Vietjet’s A330neo fleet.
Other agreements include a 500 million GBP ($660 million) comprehensive strategic partnership to enhance access to new medicines, support clinical trials, and transfer vaccine manufacturing know-how; training for Vietnamese professionals in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS); and cooperation in AI-powered English education, AI-based national exams, and the establishment of Ardingly College-branded international boarding schools in Vietnam.
Vietnamese tech conglomerate FPT also signed a strategic partnership with Chelsea Football Club to leverage its digital and AI capabilities in support of the club’s digital transformation, including fan engagement, business operations, and advanced technologies.
