Vietnam-US cooperation in energy and innovation to be promoted

Within the framework of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,  Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien on October 26 met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy & the Environment Jacob Helberg to discuss on economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S., highlighting potential areas for further partnership.

Minister Dien affirmed that artificial intelligence (AI) is not just a technology, but a driving force for higher productivity and national competitiveness, so Vietnam wants to advance AI cooperation in a practical way, focusing on training, standards, and technology transfer.

The Minister stated that Vietnam has adopted policies encouraging innovation and is eager to learn from and cooperate with advanced partners such as the U.S.. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to study the potential for joint projects in this field.

Regarding the supply chain issue, Minister Dien affirmed that Vietnam has been implementing many programs and policies to diversify its sources of input materials for manufacturing industries.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien introduced to the U.S. side Vietnam's energy development policies and strategies, and called on the later to continue supporting Vietnam in developing new energy sources, especially large-scale renewable energy projects associated with green financial mechanisms and technology transfer.
