Members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) sold 251,421 vehicles by the end of September, marking an 11.5% year-on-year increase.
By category, passenger car sales rose 4%, commercial vehicles jumped 32%, and special-purpose vehicles surged 70%.
Sales of domestically assembled cars reached 119,918 units, up 6% from a year earlier, while completely built-up imported vehicles climbed 17% to 131,503 units.
In September alone, VAMA members sold 30,688 vehicles of all types, up 18% from August but down 16% compared to the same month last year.
Industry experts said the uptick signals a recovery in Vietnam’s auto market after a sluggish first half, with consumer demand strengthening ahead of the year-end shopping season.
