The number of domestic securities trading accounts in Vietnam reached over 14.33 million as of October 31, an increase of 252,159 from the end of September, according to data from the Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC).

Individual investors accounted for the overwhelming majority of domestic accounts, with 14,311,172, up 251,974 from the previous month. This group therefore contributed almost all of the increase in domestic accounts during October.

Meanwhile, domestic institutional investors held 20,642 accounts, an increase of 185.

The figures highlight the continued dominance of individual investors in expanding participation in Vietnam’s stock market. Their substantial share of total domestic accounts also makes their activity an important indicator of public interest in equity investment.

Foreign investors, for their part, held 53,088 trading accounts at the end of October, up 191 from the end of September. Foreign individual investors accounted for 48,139 accounts, an increase of 183, while foreign institutions held 4,949, up eight.

Although the monthly increase among foreign investors was modest compared with that of domestic investors, both individual and institutional segments recorded growth.

Overall, Vietnam had 14,384,902 domestic and foreign securities trading accounts as of the end of October, an increase of 252,350 from the previous month. Domestic investors accounted for nearly 99.6% of the total.
