The Ministry of Transport (MoT) will install automated weigh stations along certain sections of the Eastern North-South Expressway to identify overloaded vehicles.
The MoT said overloaded vehicles lead to road degradation in many localities, affecting investment efficiency as maintenance and repairs are costly.
The automated weighing system will help identify overloaded vehicles and protect transport infrastructure, including expressways.
The MoT has assigned the Department for Roads of Vietnam to manage and operate the weigh stations, which will be invested in by the State budget.
The 2,063-km Eastern North-South Expressway runs from Lang Son province, on the Chinese border, to the southernmost province of Ca Mau in the Mekong Delta.
