Wharf upgrades enable Quy Nhon Port to welcome larger vessels

Ánh Tuyết -

Upgrades extended wharf’s length to 480 meters, to berth vessels of up to 30,000 DWT.

The Quy Nhon Port Joint Stock Company has completed upgrades to Wharf No. 1 at Quy Nhon port in south-central Binh Dinh province, which will enable it to berth vessels of up to 30,000 DWT.

The upgrades began in May 2022, with total investment of over VND546 billion ($22.9 million).

The wharf was lengthened to 480 meters to allow it to accommodate container vessels of up to 30,000 DWT.

The upgrades are aimed at increasing Quy Nhon Port’s cargo throughput to 15 million tons a year by 2025, contributing to effectively tapping the potential of the local sea-based economy as well as boosting socio-economic development in Binh Dinh province, the central region, and the central highlands.

Under a development plan for Quy Nhon Port in the 2021-2025 period, it will be expanded three times to 90 ha in keeping with its position as an economic gateway of the key central economic zone.
