A Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) firm is exploring an investment in a centralized solid waste treatment facility in Thanh Hoa province in central Vietnam, proposing a modern waste-to-energy project with a total investment exceeding VND1.27 trillion (over $48.4 million).

During a meeting on August 6 with Mr. Mai Xuan Liem, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives from China's Nanning-Jianning Water Investment Group Co., Ltd. expressed their strong interest in investing in the province's solid waste treatment sector, specifically proposing the development of a regional centralized facility in Sao Vang commune.

Mr. Liu Jinhu, a representative of the company, stated that the group specializes in urban water supply, wastewater treatment, water environment management, and solid waste solutions. Citing the company's extensive experience with environmental protection projects in China, he emphasized the group's desire to partner with Thanh Hoa to implement the advanced waste-to-energy project.

According to the approved 1/500 scale detailed construction plan, the project is slated for an 18.74-ha site in Sao Vang. It is designed to have a processing capacity of 1,000 tons of waste per day and will also handle a portion of standard industrial solid waste.

The facility will utilize waste-to-energy incineration technology to generate 12 MW of electricity, which will be fed into the national power grid. In addition to waste treatment, the project will also yield recycled materials and clean energy.
