The Yen Bai Provincial People’s Committee has proposed that the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam add the northern province’s Yen Bai Airport to the master plan for the development of the national airport network in the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050.

Yen Bai Airport is currently a Level 2 military airport on a total area of more than 279 ha and has a runway of 2,400 meters, which is favorable for both military and civil use.

The province has proposed developing the facility into a Level 4C airport under the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization and a Level 2 military airport.

It is expected to have a capacity of between 800,000 and 1 million passengers a year.

Yen Bai has rich resources in tourism and culture together with the development of agro-forestry processing and exports, and is seeking infrastructure development, including to its airport, to help it tap its potential, according to local authorities.
