One-hundred exemplary sustainable businesses, spanning both the manufacturing and trade-services sectors, were honored at a ceremony on the evening of November 29.
Vietnam’s Sustainable Businesses 2024, with the theme “Businesses Thriving in the Green Era”, was organized by the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development at the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
Half of the Top 10 sustainable businesses are domestic companies and the other half are foreign-invested enterprises.
Beyond the main category of sustainable businesses, the program also assessed and selected pioneering businesses excelling in two specialized categories: circular economy implementation and greenhouse gas emission reduction, and the building and implementation of diverse, equitable, and inclusive values.
Organizers said this is the ninth consecutive year that the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) program has received guidance and support from the Central Economic Commission, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
The CSI program this year attracted nearly 500 businesses nationwide, encompassing various types and sizes. From these, the organizers shortlisted and selected 142 applications for formal evaluation.
Notably, this year’s program saw a significant increase in the participation of domestic businesses and first-time participants compared to the previous three years, reaching 62 and 35 per cent, respectively.
This demonstrates a significant improvement in the level of interest in sustainable development among domestic businesses. This is encouraging news, reflecting a shift in the awareness and actions of Vietnamese businesses towards embracing and practicing sustainable business.
