The Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang city Pham Duc An recently conducted an on-site inspection and assessment of the deterioration and impact of recent storms and floods on the relics in Hoi An Ancient Town - a UNESCO world cultural heritage site.
During the meeting, the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Center proposed several solutions including urgent restoration of monuments at risk of collapse, with a mechanism to support 100 per cent of the costs for particularly valuable structures; issuing a mechanism to support restoration and renovation costs (with support levels ranging from 40 to 100 per cent) for monuments inside and outside the Hoi An Ancient Town.
The Center also proposed establishing a World Cultural Heritage Conservation Fund for the Hoi An Ancient Town to promptly rescue deteriorating monuments, allowing for urgent restoration projects for monuments at risk of collapse.
Based on the actual inspection and recommendations mentioned above, Mr. An emphasized the importance of the monuments in the cultural and spiritual life of the people, especially the role of the monuments in tourism development.
He requested the city's Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to coordinate with relevant departments, sectors, and localities to continue reviewing, inventorying, and specifically evaluating the current status and functionality of each monument, thereby proposing feasible and appropriate conservation and renovation plans in line with actual conditions.
