The State has earmarked VND400 trillion ($17.05 billion) for transport development in the 2021-2026 period, or half of all public investment capital, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
This represents a huge workload, with transport projects scattered around the country and connecting six socio-economic regions, and requires that the State steering committee for national key transport projects regularly review and examine projects to fulfill assigned tasks, Prime Minister Chinh said while addressing a meeting of the committee on April 12.
He asked localities to recognize the importance of public investment capital and strategic transport infrastructure projects in opening up development space.
“The State has allocated sufficient capital, introduced mechanisms and policies, and resolutely tackled difficulties and obstacles, so speeding up projects depends on the implementation process,” he said.
The government leader asked members of the committee and leaders of ministries, agencies, and localities to be proactive, resolute, and flexible in management and to coordinate together to address obstacles and prevent corruption and shortcomings to promote key national transport projects.
He also emphasized that measures must be taken to ensure the progress and quality of key national transport projects.
The implementation of such projects needs to diversify capital resources, tackle obstacles relating to mechanisms and policies, and simplify administrative procedures, he said.
