They include expansion and construction of expressways and ring road, aiming to strengthen connection between Ninh Binh province and Hanoi and other northern and north-central localities.
According to the road network plan for 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050, the region will have 1,256km of roads, comprising three vertical and three horizontal expressways.
Transport infrastructure has long been a major bottleneck in the development of the Mekong Delta. This is now being addressed by 37 new projects and 14 transitional projects with investment capital prioritized by the government.
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has developed five national specialized plans for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050 on roads, railways, maritime, waterways, and aviation. Priority is being given to investment projects in the Mekong Delta. In the 2021-2025 period, the region will receive investment of VND50.7 trillion ($2.22 billion), accounting for 20 per cent of the transport industry’s total investment.
