1H exports of animal husbandry products hit $232mln

Exports up 26.5% year-on-year as market recovers.

Exports of animal husbandry products rose 26.5 per cent year-on-year to $232 million in the first half of 2023, according to the Department of Husbandry at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Export value in June alone reached $44 million.

Vietnam also imported $1.67 billion worth of animal husbandry products during the period, down 9.7 per cent year-on-year. Imports of milk and milk products were estimated at $618 million, a year-on-year decline of 12.3 per cent.

The husbandry sector still depends greatly on imported raw materials for animal feed production, with 8.2 million tons imported in the first half worth $3.4 billion.

Forecasting the market in the second half of the year, Director of the Husbandry Department Duong Tat Thang said the sector has gradually recovered. Prices for animal products have begun to increase while prices of raw materials for animal feed production are heading downwards.

The Department will focus on completing legal documents and guidance measures to improve product output and quality to further boost exports, he said.
