Authorities in north-central Nghe An province have agreed to adjust the investment capital of a project building the Cua Lo Deep-water Port in Nghi Loc district.
The project’s total investment capital will be increased by nearly VND600 billion ($25.2 million), adding to the initial VND3.3 trillion ($139 million).
Covering 20 ha, the port is designed to accommodate vessels of 30,000-50,000 DWT and handle 4-5 million tons of cargo each year.
Construction began in December 2010 but was delayed for many years due to difficulties. Work resumed in 2021.
Demand in Nghe An for imports and exports is predicted to increase to 20-30 million tons in the near future. A number of businesses must export products via ports in other localities, such as Vung Ang Port in neighboring Ha Tinh province, Nghi Son Port in neighboring Thanh Hoa province, and Hai Phong Port in northern Hai Phong city.
