69% of workers to be trained by end-2024

Dũng Hiếu -

Vietnam’s labor market expected to develop stably over the course of the year.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has set a target of having nearly 69 per cent of Vietnamese workers being trained by the end of the year, according to Minister Dao Ngoc Dung.

Focus will be on high-quality human resources training to meet market demand and quality and on improving workplace productivity, particularly in emerging industries such as chips and semiconductors.

The ministry will take measures to develop the country’s labor market in a sustainable, flexible, and multidimensional manner.

It will also strive to cut unemployment to below 4 per cent.

Vietnam’s labor market continued to recover in 2023, with increases seen in both the size of the workforce and average incomes compared to 2022.

As of the fourth quarter of 2023, the number of employed workers stood at 51.5 million, a rise of 130,400 people compared to the third quarter and 414,600 compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, figures from the General Statistics Office show.

The average monthly income in 2023 was VND7.1 million ($293), a VND459,000 ($19), or 6.9 per cent, increase year-on-year.
