Amkor Technology to form semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam

The Amkor Technology Group will continue to strive to contribute to Vietnam’s development and form a semiconductor ecosystem in the country, according to Vice President and CEO of Amkor Technology Ji Rong-rip.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on October 12, Mr. Ji also emphasized that the group will continue to call on and attract other investors to Vietnam and will add Vietnam to its global network, the Government News has reported.

He spoke highly of the support from the government and relevant ministries, agencies, and localities for its operations in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Chinh said Vietnam is building a pool of mechanisms and polices to attract the world’s leading semiconductor giants and to help Vietnamese enterprises gradually participate in the semiconductor value chain.

Vietnam plans to train 50,000 workers for the industry by the end of this decade and to build a national semiconductor ecosystem, he said.

He suggested that Amkor continue helping Vietnam develop the semiconductor industry, especially in the formulation of mechanisms and policies, technology transfer, human resources training, governance capacity, infrastructure development, and research and development, and to strengthen its cooperation with the National Innovation Center.

Established in 1968 and headquartered in the US, Amkor Technology is a pioneering semiconductor company operating in both the US and South Korea. It was the first company to produce semiconductor products and brought success and growth to South Korea in the field.

Amkor has opened a new facility, with investment of an estimated $1.6 billion, in the northern province of Bac Ninh, its second in Vietnam’s north . The first was opened in neighboring Bac Giang province in mid-Septemter.
