The People's Committee of An Giang province in southern Vietnam on September 24 held a groundbreaking ceremony and launched important projects within the province, along with facilities to serve the APEC High-Level Week in 2027 to be hosted by Vietnam on the province's Phu Quoc island, according to a report from Radio the Voice of Vietnam.
Accordingly, ten projects were commenced or inaugurated, with a total investment exceeding VND53.645 trillion (over $2.22 billion). These include five projects in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone: Phu Quoc International Airport, DT.975 Road, APEC Boulevard, Cua Can Water Reservoir, and APEC Convention Center.
Another four projects commenced in communes and wards include bridge on the coastal road connecting An Bien - Rach Gia; ring road parallel to DT 942 road in An Hoi commune; circular road around Nui Sam Cultural Park; and upgrade and expansion of Huong Lo 11 road.
One project inaugurated is the Phu Tho Secondary School.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung requested An Giang province to "expeditiously complete all necessary investment procedures in accordance with legal regulations for the remaining projects, striving to commence all projects by October 2025."
Mr. Ngo Cong Thuc, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, said "With its responsibility, the An Giang Provincial People's Committee pledges to organize and implement projects serving the APEC High-Level Week 2027 with the utmost positivity and urgency, in strict accordance with legal regulations."
